Local Keyword Research

Discover exactly how customers in your city, locality and service area search for what you offer, and map those searches to your profile and website.

Local Searches Are Different

When people look for a local business, they search in ways that differ from general research. Some add a place name, such as interior designer in Gurgaon or physiotherapy clinic Dwarka. Some add near me or open now. Many simply type the service, such as AC repair or pathology lab, and let Google use their location to show nearby options. Others mix languages, typing Hindi words in English script, or speak their search into a phone. The words vary between cities and even between neighbourhoods: a locality name used by residents may differ from the official name on maps.

Local keyword research identifies these real search patterns for your services and areas, estimates which are worth targeting, and maps each one to the right place, whether that is your Google Business Profile categories and services, a service page, a location page or an FAQ. Without this research, businesses often optimise for terms they use internally that customers never search, ignore valuable locality-level searches, or create pages for areas where nobody is looking.

ViV Softech Solution is a website designing and digital marketing agency based in Delhi. We carry out local keyword research for businesses across India. This page focuses on location-based and near-me search behaviour. Broader keyword research for national or non-local topics is covered by our keyword research service. Below we explain the types of local searches, the sources and tools we use, the limitations of search volume data at local level, how we handle Indian languages and localities, how findings are mapped to your profile and website, what you receive and what affects cost.

Types of Local Searches We Analyse

Service + Location

Searches that name a city, area or landmark, such as dental clinic in Lajpat Nagar.

Near Me

Searches using near me, nearby or open now, where Google uses the searcher’s location.

Implicit Local

Service-only searches, such as plumber or yoga classes, that Google treats as local.

Hindi and Hinglish

Searches in Hindi, regional languages or transliterated words in English script.

Voice and Questions

Spoken, conversational queries such as where can I get my laptop repaired.

Modifiers

Words like best, cheap, 24 hours, emergency, home service or for women that reveal specific needs.

Sources and Tools We Use

Search data tools

Google Keyword Planner can show estimated search volumes targeted to specific cities or regions in India. Third-party SEO tools add keyword ideas, difficulty estimates and the search results currently shown for each term. Google Trends shows relative interest over time and differences between states and cities, which helps with seasonal planning.

Your own data

Google Search Console shows the actual queries that already bring your website impressions and clicks, often including local terms you did not know about. Google Business Profile performance data shows the searches people used to find your profile. These first-party sources are often more reliable than tool estimates for local terms.

Search results themselves

We look at what Google actually shows for target searches from different locations: whether a local map pack appears, which types of businesses and pages rank, and which related searches and questions are suggested. This reveals intent better than numbers alone.

Customer language

Your sales team, call records, WhatsApp enquiries, reviews and competitors’ profiles show the words real customers use, including local names for areas, services and products. We combine these insights with tool data to build a complete picture.

The Limits of Local Search Volume Data

Search volume numbers for local keywords should be treated as rough guides, not facts. Tools often show volumes in broad ranges, group similar terms together, and report zero or very low volume for locality-level searches that do in fact happen regularly. Near-me searches and implicit local searches are difficult to measure by area, because the same words are searched everywhere. Volumes also change with seasons, festivals and local events. Rather than discarding terms with low reported volume, we consider intent and commercial value: a search with only a handful of monthly searches can be extremely valuable if each searcher is ready to book a high-value service. We explain the uncertainty clearly and prioritise using a combination of volume indications, intent, competition and business value.

Localities, Landmarks and Indian Search Habits

Locality names

In Indian cities, people often search by sector, colony, phase, block or popular landmark rather than by the city name alone. Areas may have several spellings, older and newer names, or abbreviations. We identify the locality names your customers actually use, including spelling variations, so your profile and pages match real searches.

Twin cities and regions

Searches may use a metropolitan region name, such as NCR, alongside individual city names, and customers may cross city boundaries for certain services. We consider how far customers will realistically travel for your type of business.

Language mixing

Many searches combine English and Hindi or regional words, often written in English script. Service names may also have local or colloquial versions. Including natural mentions of these terms in your content, where appropriate, can help you connect with these searchers.

Mobile and voice

Most local searches happen on phones, and voice search is common, producing longer, conversational queries. Question-style keywords help shape FAQ content that answers what people ask aloud.

Understanding Local Intent

Not every keyword containing a place name signals the same intent. Searches like emergency electrician Noida or chemist open now indicate urgent, ready-to-act customers who will usually call the first suitable business. Searches like best wedding photographer in Jaipur suggest comparison, where reviews, portfolios and pricing information matter. Informational searches such as how much does a home loan cost in Mumbai or documents needed for passport in Delhi may attract people earlier in their journey, better served by guides than by service pages. We classify keywords by intent so that each is matched with the right type of content and so that you can prioritise terms most likely to bring enquiries. We also note whether Google shows a map pack, which indicates that your Google Business Profile matters most for that search, or mainly website results, where your pages carry more weight.

Mapping Keywords to Your Profile and Website

Business Profile

Primary and additional categories, service names and descriptions that match how customers search.

Service Pages

One page per main service, using the terms and modifiers customers use, with local context.

Location Pages

Pages for genuine branches or key service areas where search demand justifies them.

We follow a simple rule: one primary intent per page, so pages do not compete with each other. Where demand for an area is low, mentioning it within a broader page is often better than creating a thin dedicated page. We also identify questions suitable for FAQs and blog content, and terms better suited to paid advertising than organic pages. See keyword mapping to website pages and local landing page optimization.

Competitor Keyword Insights

Looking at the local businesses that already appear for your target searches reveals useful patterns. Which categories do they use on their profiles? Which services do they list? Which pages on their websites rank for local terms, and how are those pages structured? Are there valuable searches where competitors are weak, such as particular localities, specialised services or questions nobody answers well? We use these insights to find realistic opportunities rather than copying competitors, and we pay particular attention to gaps where your genuine strengths, such as specific expertise, languages spoken, home service or extended hours, match what customers are searching for. See local competitor analysis.

It focuses on location-based, near-me and implicit local searches and maps them to your Business Profile and local pages.
