Broken Link and Website Error Fixing

Find and fix broken links, 404 pages, redirect problems, critical errors, failing forms and display glitches, so visitors and search engines experience a website that simply works.

Small Errors, Real Consequences

Websites accumulate errors over time. Pages are renamed or deleted, leaving links pointing nowhere. External sites you linked to disappear. Images go missing after a migration. A plugin conflict produces a warning message at the top of pages. A form stops sending emails after a hosting change. Sometimes the whole site shows a white screen or a message saying there has been a critical error.

Individually some of these problems look minor, but they add up. Visitors who click a broken link or see an error page lose confidence and often leave. Customers who submit a form that silently fails never hear back. Search engines waste crawl effort on broken URLs, and links from other websites pointing to deleted pages lose their value. A site full of errors also signals neglect, which undermines trust in your business.

ViV Softech Solution is a website designing and digital marketing agency based in Delhi. We diagnose and fix website errors for WordPress and other websites for businesses across India. This page explains the common types of errors we fix, how we find them, our approach to redirects and 404 pages, fixing critical errors and white screens, checking forms and functionality, preventing recurrence and what affects cost. We focus on finding root causes rather than hiding symptoms.

Errors We Commonly Fix

Broken Internal Links

Links within your site pointing to deleted, renamed or mistyped pages.

Broken External Links

Links to other websites that no longer exist or have moved.

Redirect Problems

Missing redirects, redirect chains, loops and incorrect temporary redirects.

Critical Errors and White Screens

Fatal PHP errors, plugin conflicts, memory limits and failed updates that take pages down.

Form and Email Failures

Contact forms that do not send, emails landing in spam and missing notifications.

Missing Images and Mixed Content

Broken images, insecure resources on HTTPS pages and layout glitches.

How We Find Errors

Site crawl

We crawl your website the way a search engine would, collecting every internal link, image, script and redirect, and flagging error responses, redirect chains and missing resources.

Search Console data

Where you grant access, Google Search Console shows pages Google tried to crawl but could not, including links from other websites pointing to missing pages.

Server and PHP error logs

Logs reveal warnings and fatal errors that visitors may not see but that indicate deeper problems.

Browser console checks

JavaScript errors and failed resource loads can break menus, sliders, forms and checkouts without obvious messages.

Functional testing

We test forms, search, logins, carts and other interactive features on desktop and mobile.

Analytics review

Analytics can reveal which missing pages visitors actually land on, helping prioritise fixes.

Fixing Broken Links and 404 Pages Properly

Not every 404 needs a redirect, and not every redirect is a good idea. We decide case by case:

  • Fix the link at the source: if your own page links to a wrong URL, the best fix is to correct the link itself.
  • Redirect moved content: if a page has moved or been replaced, a permanent redirect sends visitors and search engines to the closest relevant new page.
  • Do not redirect everything to the home page: mass redirects of unrelated URLs to the home page confuse visitors and are often treated as soft errors by search engines.
  • Let truly obsolete pages return 404 or 410: content that no longer exists and has no replacement can legitimately return a not-found status.
  • Clean up redirect chains: multiple hops slow pages and dilute signals, so chains are collapsed into single redirects.
  • Update or remove dead external links: replace them with current sources or remove them.

A helpful 404 page

Even with fixes, some visitors will mistype URLs. A helpful custom 404 page with search, popular links and contact options keeps them on your site instead of leaving.

Critical Errors and White Screens

When WordPress shows a critical error message or a blank white page, visitors cannot use the site at all. Common causes include:

  • A plugin or theme update incompatible with other components
  • A PHP version change that older code does not support
  • Insufficient PHP memory limits
  • Corrupted core files or failed updates
  • Errors in custom code or recent edits
  • Database connection problems
  • Malware modifying files

We work safely: first taking a backup of the current state, then using logs and WordPress recovery tools to identify the failing component, disabling or rolling back it to restore service quickly, and finally fixing the underlying cause properly on staging. If the cause is malicious, we follow our malware cleanup process.

Forms and Email Delivery

Contact forms that silently fail are among the most costly website errors, because you lose enquiries without knowing it. Typical causes include web servers that cannot send email reliably, missing email authentication records, spam filters, misconfigured form settings and conflicts with security plugins.

Fixes include sending website email through an authenticated mail service, setting up appropriate domain email records with your email provider, storing form entries in the website as a backup, adding test submissions to monitoring and checking spam protection does not block genuine users.

Display Errors and Mixed Content

Some errors do not stop the site but make it look broken: missing images after a migration, layouts that collapse on certain phones, overlapping text, menus that do not open, sliders stuck on one image or security warnings caused by loading images and scripts over insecure connections on HTTPS pages. We trace these to their cause, whether wrong file paths, caching problems, script conflicts or hard-coded insecure URLs, and fix them across the site rather than page by page. We test on several browsers and real mobile devices to confirm.

Preventing Errors From Coming Back

  • Redirect management: a redirect tool so future URL changes automatically get redirects.
  • Change discipline: backups and staging tests before updates and edits.
  • Uptime and error monitoring: alerts when pages fail or forms stop working.
  • Periodic crawls: regular link checks as part of maintenance.
  • Plugin hygiene: removing unused and abandoned plugins that cause conflicts.
  • Documentation: a record of fixes and redirects for future reference.

Ongoing prevention is included in our website maintenance plans.

Our Process

1. Access and backup: secure access and a full backup before changes. 2. Audit: crawl, logs, Search Console, console checks and functional tests. 3. Report and prioritise: errors grouped by impact, with recommended fixes. 4. Fix: link corrections, redirects, code fixes, configuration changes and email setup. 5. Verify: re-crawl, retest functions and confirm logs are clean. 6. Prevent: monitoring and maintenance recommendations.

For urgent issues, such as a site that is completely down, we prioritise restoring service first and complete the wider audit afterwards.

What Affects Cost

  • Website size and number of errors found.
  • Error type: link fixes are quicker than diagnosing complex code conflicts.
  • Urgency: emergency fixes for a down site are prioritised.
  • Migration history: sites moved between domains or platforms often need extensive redirect work.
  • Email infrastructure: setup of mail services and domain records.
  • Access to logs, hosting and Search Console.

Frequently Asked Questions

A few broken links are normal, but many can waste crawl effort, lose value from external links and frustrate visitors. Fixing them is good practice.

No. Redirect only to genuinely relevant pages. Unrelated home page redirects confuse users and search engines.

Avoid making repeated changes. Contact us with hosting access; we will back up, identify the failing component and restore service.

Often because the server cannot send authenticated email or messages are filtered as spam. Using a proper mail service usually solves it.

Yes. We fix missing images, broken links, redirects and configuration issues common after migrations.

An audit with a crawl, logs and Search Console data reveals most issues. We can run one and share the findings.
