Microsoft Advertising (Bing Ads)

Reach searchers on Bing and Microsoft’s partner network, an often overlooked channel that can add efficient, incremental leads and sales alongside Google Ads.

The Search Audience Beyond Google

Google dominates search in India, but it is not the only search engine people use. Bing is the default search engine in Microsoft Edge and on many Windows computers, powers search features in Microsoft products, and supplies results to some other search services. Its users often skew towards desktop, office and business settings, which can make Bing valuable for B2B services, professional products, software, education and higher-value consumer purchases researched at work or on a laptop. Microsoft Advertising, formerly Bing Ads, lets businesses show ads to these searchers, as well as across the Microsoft Audience Network, which includes placements in Microsoft properties such as MSN and Outlook, and partner sites.

Because fewer advertisers compete on Bing than on Google, costs per click are sometimes lower, though this varies widely by industry and region. The overall volume of searches is much smaller, so Microsoft Advertising usually complements Google Ads rather than replacing it. For businesses already running successful search campaigns, adding Microsoft Advertising can be a relatively quick way to reach additional customers with campaigns adapted from existing work. For businesses with very small budgets, Google usually comes first.

ViV Softech Solution is a website designing and digital marketing agency based in Delhi. We set up and manage Microsoft Advertising campaigns for businesses across India and those targeting international markets where Bing has a larger share. This page explains when it makes sense, importing from Google Ads, campaign types, targeting, tracking, and how we measure incremental value.

When Microsoft Advertising Makes Sense

Microsoft Advertising is most worth considering when you already have Google search campaigns that are profitable and want more volume at similar or better efficiency; when your buyers are professionals or businesses who often search on work computers; when you target international markets, such as the United States or the United Kingdom, where Bing’s share of desktop search is typically higher than in India; or when your products have higher order values, so even modest additional volume is meaningful.

It is less likely to justify the effort when your Google campaigns are not yet working, when your budget is very small, when your customers search mainly on mobile phones in local contexts, or when search volume for your terms on Bing is too small to produce reliable data. We look at Microsoft’s keyword planning tools and, where possible, a short test period to estimate potential before recommending ongoing investment.

Importing From Google Ads, Carefully

Microsoft Advertising offers a Google Import tool that copies campaigns, ad groups, keywords, ads, extensions and some settings from Google Ads, and can schedule regular updates. This saves time, but a blind import often creates problems. Bidding strategies may not map directly, location and language settings can differ, conversion goals need to be recreated with Microsoft’s tracking, budgets copied from Google may be far too high or low for Bing’s smaller volumes, and some ad assets or campaign types do not have direct equivalents. Scheduled imports can also overwrite optimisations made specifically in Microsoft Advertising. We use import as a starting point, then review each campaign: adjusting budgets to realistic levels, setting up conversion goals and UET, checking location targeting options, reviewing negative keywords, and deciding whether ongoing imports should be enabled or whether the account should be managed independently once established. Microsoft’s search partner network and audience network settings also deserve review, since they can affect quality.

Targeting Options

Like Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising targets primarily through keywords, with location, language, device and schedule settings. It also offers audience options that can be layered onto search or used in audience campaigns: remarketing lists built with UET, in-market audiences of people showing purchase intent in a category, similar audiences, customer match lists where eligible, and custom combinations.

Microsoft has offered LinkedIn profile targeting, allowing bid adjustments or targeting based on company, industry and job function, drawing on its ownership of LinkedIn. This is a distinctive option for B2B advertisers, though availability and details depend on campaign type and market. We use these options to focus spend on the most relevant searchers, particularly for B2B, and monitor whether they improve lead quality. See LinkedIn Ads.

Tracking With UET

Universal Event Tracking, known as UET, is Microsoft’s website tag. It records conversions such as form submissions, purchases and calls, builds remarketing lists, and supports automated bidding. We install UET through Google Tag Manager or directly, define conversion goals that match your real business actions, pass revenue values for ecommerce, and test that goals record correctly. Microsoft also supports offline conversion imports and enhanced conversions, which can connect later sales or qualified leads back to clicks, and consent mode, which adjusts tracking based on visitor consent. Your privacy policy should disclose this tracking, and consent should be respected where required. UTM parameters help compare Microsoft traffic in Google Analytics 4. Without accurate goals, automated bidding cannot work properly and results cannot be judged fairly, so tracking is set up before any meaningful spend.

Measuring Incremental Value

Additional Leads

Conversions that Microsoft brings beyond your existing channels.

Efficiency Comparison

Cost per qualified lead compared fairly with Google and other platforms.

Lead Quality

Checking whether Bing leads convert to customers at similar rates.

Because volume is smaller, Microsoft campaigns need longer evaluation periods to produce reliable conclusions. We report Microsoft results separately, compare them with your Google results and CRM outcomes, and recommend continuing, scaling or pausing based on genuine contribution rather than platform-reported figures alone.

Our Process

We estimate search volume and value for your keywords and markets.

We set up the account in your name, install UET and create conversion goals.

We import from Google Ads where useful and review every setting.

We launch with realistic budgets and monitor search terms closely.

We compare results with other channels and refine or scale accordingly.
