App Maintenance and Updates

Keep your Android and iOS apps secure, compatible, stable and compliant with store policies, with planned updates and responsive bug fixing.

Launch Is the Beginning, Not the End

A mobile app is never truly finished. After launch, the environment around it keeps changing. Apple and Google release new versions of iOS and Android every year, introducing new requirements, deprecating older features and sometimes breaking existing functionality. Google Play and the Apple App Store regularly update their policies on privacy, permissions, target API levels and data disclosure, and apps that fall behind can be removed or blocked from updating. Third-party services used by the app, such as payment gateways, maps, analytics, push notifications and login providers, update their SDKs and retire old versions. New phones with different screen sizes appear, and users discover bugs that testing did not reveal.

Without regular maintenance, apps gradually degrade: crashes increase, features stop working on newer devices, security vulnerabilities remain unpatched, ratings drop as users leave negative reviews, and eventually the app may be removed from a store for non-compliance. Rebuilding a neglected app is usually far more expensive than maintaining it. A structured maintenance plan keeps your app stable, secure, compliant and improving over time, protecting the investment you made in building it.

ViV Softech Solution is a website designing and digital marketing agency in Delhi, and we maintain mobile apps for businesses across India as part of our mobile app development services. We maintain apps we have built and, after a technical review, apps built by other developers. New app development is covered by Android app development, iOS app development and cross-platform app development.

What App Maintenance Covers

OS Compatibility

Updates for new Android and iOS versions.

Bug Fixes

Investigating and resolving reported issues.

Security Updates

Patching libraries and vulnerabilities.

Store Compliance

Meeting Google Play and App Store policy changes.

Performance Monitoring

Crash reports, speed and stability tracking.

Feature Improvements

Planned enhancements based on user feedback.

Staying Compatible and Compliant

Each year, Google Play requires apps to target a recent Android API level to publish updates, and Apple expects apps to be built with recent versions of its development tools. New OS releases may change how permissions, notifications, background tasks, location access or storage work. We test your app against beta and new releases, update the codebase and dependencies, and submit compliant updates before deadlines where possible.

Store policies also evolve around privacy and data. Apps must declare what data they collect in Google Play’s Data safety section and Apple’s privacy details, request permissions only when needed, provide account deletion where required, and follow rules on payments, content and advertising. We keep these declarations accurate and help respond to store review feedback. Final approval decisions rest with Apple and Google.

How a Maintenance Plan Works

Every maintenance relationship begins with understanding the app. For apps we did not build, we start with a technical review: we examine the source code, architecture, frameworks and versions used, third-party libraries and their update status, backend services and APIs, hosting, build and signing configuration, store accounts and access, existing crash data and known issues. This review identifies risks such as outdated frameworks, missing source code, insecure practices or undocumented dependencies, and tells you honestly what condition the app is in and what it will take to keep it healthy. Ownership and access are confirmed early: your business should own the developer accounts on Google Play and Apple, the source code repository, signing keys and backend hosting, so you are never locked out. Once onboarded, maintenance follows an agreed rhythm. Monitoring tools such as Firebase Crashlytics and analytics track crashes, errors and performance, often revealing problems before users report them. Reported bugs are logged, prioritised by severity and user impact, reproduced, fixed and tested on representative devices. Critical issues, such as crashes affecting many users, payment failures or security problems, receive urgent attention, while minor issues are grouped into planned releases. Dependencies and SDKs are updated regularly to keep up with security patches and platform requirements, with testing to catch regressions. Releases are prepared with proper version numbering, release notes and staged rollouts where helpful, so problems in a new version can be caught before reaching all users. Backend servers and APIs that the app depends on are included in the plan where we manage them, because many app problems originate on the server side. Monthly or quarterly reports summarise stability, updates released, issues resolved and recommendations.

Plans are tailored to your app’s complexity, user base and business importance, with clear response times agreed in advance.

Improving the App Over Time

Maintenance is also the foundation for improvement. App store reviews, support tickets and analytics reveal where users struggle, which features they use most and where they drop off. We gather these insights into a prioritised improvement list, balancing quick wins with larger enhancements.

Design refinements, onboarding improvements, performance optimisation and accessibility enhancements can raise satisfaction and ratings. Larger redesigns are planned as separate projects; see app UI/UX design. Responding to store reviews professionally also helps reputation.
